The Daily Mail reports that a number of Premier League teams, including Manchester United, are keeping a close eye on Castello Lukeba, a defender for RB Leipzig, in preparation for the summer. The 23-year-old France international is being watched by the Old Trafford team, Tottenham, Chelsea, and Arsenal since it looks like he will leave Leipzig at the end of the current campaign.
Despite recently extending Harry Maguire’s contract, United may want to bolster their defensive options in anticipation of a return to continental play. With seven games left in the Premier League, Michael Carrick’s team is well-positioned to qualify for the Champions League.
Lukeba has drawn several Premier League suitors and is reportedly ready to move away from Leipzig this summer, according to the Daily Mail. The French defender, who moved from Lyon to Leipzig in the summer of 2023, is apparently the subject of proposals from English teams totalling almost £40 million.
Man United handed golden opportunity to sign Lukeba
Lukeba, an incredible left-footed centre-back, may directly replace Lisandro Martinez at Manchester United if the Argentinian continues to struggle with injuries this season.
Martinez hasn’t played since the 1-1 draw against West Ham in February and has only made 15 appearances across all competitions thus far. Along with Patrick Dorgu, who has missed the previous eight games due to a hamstring injury, the Argentine international may make a comeback for Leeds United’s visit to Old Trafford on April 13.
Matthijs de Ligt, on the other hand, is still unlikely to participate against Leeds because he hasn’t played since November due to a back issue. The Dutch international’s absence has lasted longer than anticipated, which may force United to think about their centre-back alternatives this summer.
Manchester United seems to be in for another hectic offseason as they look to restructure their midfield after spending more than £200 million on new acquisitions last summer. The Red Devils have prioritised finding a successor for Brazil international Casemiro ahead of the summer, since he will be leaving the team at the end of the current campaign.
