Senior journalist Ben Jacobs of GIVEMESPORT reports that Manchester United will make formal contact with Michael Carrick’s managerial options this month. Carrick has put himself firmly in the running to be Man United’s next permanent manager after his successful interim tenure. Man United authorities will shortly make this decision.
The 44-year-old has grabbed 23 points out of a possible 30 since taking over for Ruben Amoirm in January, moving the Red Devils up to third place in the Premier League rankings.
Carrick and his team are presently six points clear of fifth-place Liverpool and require a top-five finish to make it back to the Champions League for the first time since they were eliminated at the group stage of the previous iteration in 2023.
Making official contact with candidates other than Carrick will be a part of United’s hunt for the next manager. In response to a question on United’s possible interest in USA manager Mauricio Pochettino, Jacobs informed the United Stand that Carrick and German manager Julian Nagelsmann are more important to United than the Argentine.
Man Utd set to make formal approach to Julian Nagelsmann
According to Jacobs, “formal” enquiries for candidates are on the horizon. Nagelsmann, a youthful manager poised to dominate the Premier League, is all Man United had hoped Amorim would be. “At the moment, Carrick and Nagelsmann are superior to Pochettino. There will be a formal outreach to additional candidates in April.
Nagelsmann’s contract with the team expires in 2028, although he’s willing to work for a club this summer. He has been eager to become a Premier League manager. The 4-2-3-1 manager is now in command of Germany ahead of the 2026 World Cup. His contract is valid until 2028, although he may decide on his future following the competition, at which point Man United may come to an agreement.
Even though Nagelsmann is only 38 years old, former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp called him “extraordinary” due to his extensive experience. He is going to lead his first World Cup after taking over Bayern Munich. Nagelsmann would offer a much-needed shake-up to give Man United an immediate edge at a time when most of the Premier League has opted for a practical approach.
