Manchester United starlet James Garner has won the Player of the Year Award in the Under 23 category for the 2019/20 campaign.

He’s a product of the United academy and a really great one too. The 19 year old midfielder has pretty impressive stats. He has scored eight goals in ten Premier League 2 appearances – gaining some serious eyeballs. His goals have helped propel United’s Under 23 to the top division.

“James really earned this,” said the head of United’s academy Nick Cox. “”He’s been nominated for three awards during his time in the Academy, which just shows the level of his performance over the last few years.

“He has been really consistent throughout the season and improved on getting forward and scoring goals, which adds another dimension to his talents. James’s range of passing is excellent; he’s a great reader of the game and has become a leader within the group.

“The minutes that he got for the first team are down to the hard work and dedication that he regularly shows and this award is further recognition of that.”

Garner has now left Manchester United and is out on loan at Werder Bremen.

“If they are not going to be part of the first team there is no reason to keep them playing in the U23s,” said coach Neil Wood on Garner and Chong, who has since joined Werder Bremen on loan. “It wouldn’t be right for their own individual development.
