Ruben Amorim- Man Utd Manager

Manchester United have taken the first step toward signing Sporting CP captain Morten Hjulmand, lodging an initial €40 million bid to bring the Danish midfielder to Old Trafford, according to reliable reports.

Hjulmand Tops Manchester United Midfield Wish List

Ruben Amorim, who previously managed Hjulmand at Sporting, is said to be eager to reunite with the 26‑year‑old in Manchester.

Hjulmand flourished under his leadership in Portugal, captaining Sporting and helping them to retain the Primeira Liga title in 2024/25.

This familiarity has fueled United’s interest and now appears to have translated into a concrete offer.

Sporting placed an €80 million release clause in Hjulmand’s contract upon signing him in August 2023 from Lecce a figure they insist on enforcing.

While Juventus have shown interest, their reported bids have fallen around €35 million far short of Sporting’s valuation.

Despite that ask, United’s representatives are hopeful that the negotiation can land somewhere around €40–50 million, and the player’s camp reportedly views that range as fair value.

Meanwhile, Sporting are firm on a minimum exit fee around €50 million but have not ruled out dialogue.

If the offer holds, Hjulmand would become the latest midfield reinforcement under Amorim, joining the already signed Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and others as ambitions continue to rise ahead of the new season.

United are still in the market for a striker and goalkeeper too, but strengthening their core midfield options remains a high priority.

Hjulmand, known for his tactical awareness, ball-winning abilities and leadership, matches the dynamic profile that Amorim demands.

Should negotiations progress, he would bring combative presence and Premier League readiness to the United engine room.
