Jurrien Timber has been targetted by Man United.

The Ajax defender is top on Ten Hag’s defender wishlist who enjoyed a successful breakthrough season under the Dutch manager.

The youngster is expected to follow Ten Hag at Old Trafford who is a centre-back by trade but can also operate in the right-back position.

Both Phil Jones and Eric Bailly are expected to leave in the summer and United need some serious defensive reinforcements.

While on international duty, Timber remained coy about his future and didn’t rule out an exit from Ajax this summer.

“Of course I can develop further at Ajax – I am 100 percent sure of that,” he is quoted as saying by the Metro. “I don’t feel like I’m done at the club. But I can also develop at other clubs.

“I am now focusing on the upcoming international matches and then go on holiday. Then I’ll have to think about it some more. In the end, my gut feeling will be the deciding factor.

“The picture has to be right. You can go to a big club. But if you’re not going to play there, it’s better to stay with Ajax. And Ajax is also a big club.”
