Although it wasn’t flawless, Manchester United’s most recent match at Old Trafford demonstrated the team’s potential under Ruben Amorim’s leadership, with the home team appearing incredibly fluid and energetic in the last third.
Amorim can’t expect much more from his attacking unit now that United has scored four goals, but the Portuguese coach will undoubtedly be irritated by the long list of lost opportunities, with Bryan Mbeumo especially hitting the bar a few times.
Benjamin Sesko’s comeback could be the ideal answer, but the Slovenian has only scored twice since joining from RB Leipzig for £74 million in the summer. He also famously missed two excellent opportunities before withdrawing due to injury at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Amorim still needs a player in the vein of the once-talismanic Swede, Viktor Gyokeres, who scored 66 goals in just 67 games while he was at Sporting CP. However, his own Arsenal problems would indicate that United was correct to pass on Gyokeres.
Man Utd pushing to sign Semenyo
Rather, winning their own transfer battle will be crucial to Man United’s future. Fabrizio Romano claims that Man United is “pushing” to recruit Antoine Semenyo following “direct talks” before the January transfer window. Since it was revealed that Semenyo’s current Bournemouth contract had a £65 million release clause, an eager queue has been growing.
The Red Devils have allegedly had negotiations with Liverpool, Manchester City, Man United, and Tottenham Hotspur in an effort to recruit the winger. Romano said that Semenyo’s release clause needs to be activated by January 10, so things might move quickly.
It’s understandable why so many teams are vying for the 25-year-old’s signing. Since calling Semenyo “incredible” in October, Bournemouth teammate Justin Kluivert has watched as the attacker has scored seven goals in 15 Premier League appearances.
According to reports, Amorim is also a passionate fan, which is another important factor for INEOS. They should do all in their power to win what is probably going to be the most competitive race of the winter window.
