Manchester United are ‘definitely aware’ of Benfica striker Darwin Nunez’s situation amid increasing speculation over his future

After an extraordinarily profitable 18 months for the Eagles, the highly-rated 22-year-old is allegedly on the radar of a slew of prominent European clubs. There are ‘three front-runners’ for Nunez’s signing ahead of the summer transfer window, with Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain joining United in the search.

According to reports, Benfica are ‘open to a deal’ and are anticipated to ask roughly €70 million (£58.2 million) for the prolific attacker, with first talks set to complete in the coming weeks.

However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has offered an update on Nunez’s pursuit, suggesting that it will cost his potential suitors €80 million (£66.6 million) to get him away from the Estádio da Luz.

Nunez joined Benfica in September 2020 after an impressive season with Almeria in Spain’s second division.

And the South American hit the ground running in his new surroundings, scoring 26 goals in 44 appearances across all competitions in 2020/21.

Nunez, on the other hand, has taken his game to new heights this season, scoring 31 goals and providing three assists in 36 appearances to propel Benfica to the Champions League quarter-finals.

As a result, Nunez seems to be ready to join one of the game’s finest clubs, and he may be a wise purchase for United and incoming manager Erik ten Hag.
