Fabrizio Romano reports that Manchester United has informed Fiorentina that they will not exercise their €20 million (£16.8 million) buy option and that they are now open to discussing a new contract with the club in order to recruit Sofyan Amrabat. In September of last year, Amrabat went on season-long loan to United after making waves for Morocco in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Though he failed to establish himself in midfield, the 27-year-old had a difficult debut season in the Premier League. Amrabat did make his way back into the team at the conclusion of the season, impressing in the last league games against Newcastle United and Brighton before putting on a fantastic show in the FA Cup final against Manchester City, despite not being a consistent starter in the second half of the campaign.
Man Utd open to different terms for Fiorentina midfielder
The Red Devils added him to their roster for a season by paying an upfront loan fee of €10 million plus further €5 million in add-ons. At Old Trafford, Sofyan Amrabat struggled to get going. In the early part of the season, he did play a lot of the lead-off roles. However, the international Moroccan player fell short of the standards.
Erik ten Hag says he still thinks highly of the player, even though he did not have the intended effect on the field. For the Dutch manager last season, his work ethic and adaptability were incredibly helpful. He may be a valuable member of their team even now. While other teams are interested in signing him, negotiations between Man Utd and Florentina to explore new terms on a reduced fee are unlikely to proceed smoothly.
