The Chelsea target is high on the list of potential options as Manchester United pulls out of talks with Paris Saint-Germain over Manuel Ugarte. The Red Devils are discussing a £38 million move for Wolves star Joao Gomes.
When the summer transfer window opened, Ugarte was United’s top target to play in midfield alongside Kobbie Mainoo. However, the Red Devils have chosen to pass on Ugarte because Paris Saint-Germain will not lower their asking price.
With Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s new mantra in place, United isn’t ready to come close to the €60 million that PSG paid to sign the Uruguayan from Sporting Lisbon in 2023.
Man Utd shift focus From Ugarte to Gomes
According to David Ornstein’s claims, Manchester United has clearly changed their approach. The team has retreated from costly talks with PSG regarding Ugarte in favour of more realistic goals like Gomes. There could be big changes in United’s midfield, according to sources, as Scott McTominay and Casemiro could go to make place for new players.
According to a source, “Manchester United is still interested in Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Joao Gomes.” A flexible player is desperately needed in defensive and central midfield, especially if important players leave.
Going up against Chelsea and Manchester United, Gomes’ situation is becoming more intense. A price tag of about £38 million is being mooted. Chelsea may redouble their efforts after selling Conor Gallagher to Atletico Madrid, perhaps igniting a bidding battle.
