Wales is reportedly investigating Ryan Giggs and Craig Bellamy as possible managers to replace Rob Page. Page guided Wales to their first World Cup in sixty-four years and a run to the Euro 2020 last sixteen after taking over as manager for three and a half years. Page, though, has faced a lot of criticism in the past few months after a disappointing Euro 2024 qualifying campaign.
After the last international break, FAW officials held talks and came to the conclusion that reform was necessary. According to The Times, there have been rumours that the former winger for Manchester United might make an incredible managerial comeback with the Wales national team.
Bringing Ryan Giggs back sends out the wrong message
Giggs was arrested in November 2020 on suspicion of physically attacking his ex-partner and her sister. Rob Page, who succeeded Giggs as manager of Wales for nearly four years, had his contract terminated. The two former Wales internationals are now being considered for the role.
Giggs was cleared of the previously mentioned accusations and has returned to football, serving as director of football at Salford City, a team he co-owns. After the charges against the former Manchester United “legend” arose, he was fired as Wales manager. The FAW made that decision without a conviction because the scandal the case created was enough.
Ryan Giggs. Mason G. Greenwood. United alone has a track record of several examples that many supporters wish they didn’t have, but that is the nature of the culture we live in.
