Manchester United are preparing to make a move for Juventus midfielder Khephren Thuram when the summer transfer window opens, according to reports in Italy.
Red Devils Target Juventus Star Thuram as Casemireo Replacement
The Red Devils are planning a significant overhcaul of their engine room ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
With several first-team players potentially heading for the exit door, the club is actively scouring the market for reinforcements.
Veteran midfielder Casemiro is already confirmed to depart Old Trafford once his contract expires at the end of the season.
Meanwhile, Manuel Ugarte is considering his future after struggling to secure a regular starting spot under the current management setup.
According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, United have identified Thuram as a prime target to bolster their central options.
The 24-year-old Frenchman has impressed since joining the Turin giants from Nice for a fee of around £16.9 million.
However, prising him away from the Allianz Stadium will not be straightforward. Juventus currently view the midfielder as a foundational piece of their project and have placed him on their “unsellable list.”
The Serie A side recently tied him down to a contract running until 2029, where he currently earns a net salary of £1.7 million per year.
Reports suggest the club are keen to extend that stay until 2030 with improved terms worth £2.6 million net annually.
Thuram has proven his worth in Italy this season. Operating mainly as a central or defensive midfielder, he boasts an impressive 87% pass completion rate in Serie A.
Defensively, he averages four duels won and two tackles per game, demonstrating the combative edge United crave in the middle of the park.
Despite Juventus’ desire to keep him, the situation remains fluid. The Bianconeri are enduring a difficult campaign, currently sitting sixth in the table.
They are four points adrift of the Champions League places and recently suffered elimination from Europe.
Failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League could force Juventus to balance the books.
If that scenario unfolds, United could test their resolve with a substantial offer. A bid in the region of £40 million might tempt the Italian giants into a sale.
For now, Thuram remains focused on his duties in Turin, but Manchester United are monitoring the situation closely.
Whether they can land their target may ultimately depend on where Juventus finish in the league.
