Manchester United are planning a major overhaul of their midfield this summer, and Borussia Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha has emerged as a primary target to replace the departing Casemiro.
Man Utd Target Felix Nmecha Available for €55m as Dortmund Open Door
According to German outlet Fussball Daten, the Red Devils are preparing for life without the Brazilian veteran.
Casemiro is expected to leave Old Trafford when his contract expires at the end of the season.
With question marks also lingering over the futures of Manuel Ugarte and Bruno Fernandes, the club is prioritizing the addition of fresh legs in the center of the pitch.
While Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson remains a top target, United are likely to recruit more than one midfielder.
Club chiefs now see Nmecha as a “strategic reinforcement” to bolster the squad’s physical presence.
The 24-year-old has become a key player for Dortmund in recent seasons, earning praise for his performances.
Described as an “insane” talent, Nmecha combines technical skill with powerful physical attributes, allowing him to compete with the best midfielders in Europe.
Interestingly, he qualifies as “homegrown” in the Premier League having come through the academy at Manchester City, which significantly boosts his value to English clubs.
Dortmund are facing financial pressures and may be forced to sell. Reports indicate the German club is open to offers between €45m and €55m (£39m-48m).
They believe his homegrown status makes him easily worth that fee to Premier League sides looking to strengthen.
Nmecha currently earns around €5m-per-year (£83,000-a-week) in Germany. However, a return to England would likely see his wages almost double to approximately €9m-per-year (£150,000-a-week).
If United make a move, they will face competition from several other top English clubs monitoring the situation closely.
However, the need for a powerful and technically gifted replacement for Casemiro makes Old Trafford a logical destination.
Given the mooted price, Nmecha would likely serve as a solid squad builder alongside a more marquee signing in what promises to be a busy summer for the Red Devils.
