Hannibal Mejbri of Manchester United has agreed to join Burnley, and although two more midfield players are expected to depart before the August 30 deadline, a top earner has been granted a reprieve. In Hannibal’s contract, Manchester United exercised their club option at the beginning of the new year. The aggressive midfielder is under contract with the Red Devils through the 2024–2025 campaign, but after that, they will no longer have the safety net of option money.
Because the 21-year-old did not seem to be at the forefront of Erik ten Hag’s midfield plans, Man United has looked into ways to let him go. Hannibal was considered by championship team Burnley, and according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, a permanent sale has been arranged.
Man Utd AGREE to sell wonderkid Hannibal Mejbri to Championship club
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Hannibal is scheduled to have his medical on Monday before the trade is finalized. The midfield player, who signed a one-year extension in December, is entering the final year of his United contract; the deal was characterized as “almost there”.
In 2019, he came from Monaco to join United’s development system. Last season, he made 13 appearances in the main squad and scored one goal in a 3-1 loss to Brighton. As his book value is now the same as an academy player after five years at the club, Hannibal’s sale will be recorded as a “pure profit” in the bank. As a native asset, Hannibal is valued at £8 million when add-ons are taken into account, despite having been signed for £4.2 million. In the next year, this would assist them in meeting the Profit and Sustainability Rules.
