Manchester United ace urged by former teammate to stay at the club

The player has been linked with a summer exit

Anthony Martial joined Manchester United from Monaco for £36 million, potentially rising to £58 million, on a four-year contract with the option of another year in 2015. Since then he has been an integral part of the team and is considered one of the best young talents in the world.

The France International started last season off brightly and was regular during the first half of the season under Jose Mourinho. But since the arrival of Alexis Sanchez in the January transfer window from Arsenal, he has found minutes harder to come by and has started only 6 games since the Chilean joined.

He still managed to score 11 goals and provided 7 assists in all competitions. He was also awarded the club’s Player of the month three times.

It was thought that the 22 year old could leave the Premier League giants this summer in order to get more first team football and has been linked with a move to host of clubs. He still has a year left on his contract and the Red Devils have the option to extend it by another year.

His representative further intensified the speculations last month by claiming that his client is unhappy and wants to leave the club.

However, the Frenchman flew out with his team-mates on their pre-season tour of the US and the transfer talks went quiet. He has since flown to Paris to be with his partner for the birth of their son, Swan, and it is not yet clear when he will return.

Former United striker Dimitor Berbatov has Martial to stay at the club and wait for his chance.

“Anthony Martial needs to stay at Old Trafford. We used to play at Monaco together so I know how he plays,” he told Betfair as quoted by Manchester Evening News.

“The board and the coach need to get together; he’s not even close to reaching his full potential and United is the best for him.

“He needs to be patient, wait for his chance to play because he’s an unbelievable footballer.

“I hope Jose Mourinho gives him more playing time because he’s one of the best young players in Europe.”
