Manchester United Agree Personal Terms With £87m Real Madrid Defender

The latest report from Dario Gol claims that Raphael Varane has agreed personal terms with Manchester United over a proposed £87m transfer from Real Madrid.

The French defender has grown frustrated with life at the Santiago Bernabeu and is reported to be eager on a switch to Old Trafford. United have been on the 25-year-old’s tail for quite some time but talks never progressed beyond the rumour stages.

Varane is one of the top centre-backs in the world right now after clinching the 2018 World Cup trophy with France and also three consecutive Champions League wins with the Galacticos.

The Red Devils are in dire need of defensive improvements with players like Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo not exactly stepping up to the plate. Originally, it was Jose Mourinho who wanted to bring in Varane at Manchester since it was the Portuguese manager himself, who gave the 25-year-old his first start in the Madrid senior team.

Ed Woodward has since done away with Mourinho but chose to keep the tactician’s scouted player list. The United chairman has also consulted Ole Gunnar Solskjaer regarding the future purchase of players, one of their top targets being Varane.

The Red Devils did manage a convincing 1-3 win over Arsenal in the FA Cup 4th Round tie held at the Emirates on Friday night. Impressive defensive efforts of Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly helped Solskjaer’s side to get the win over the rivals.

With 8 consecutive wins clinched under the Norwegian boss, United will be looking to climb their way back into the top four of the Premier League this season.
