According to Caught Offside, Manchester United is considering a deal this summer to add AC Milan player Strahinja Pavlović to strengthen their defensive line.
The Red Devils are aiming to earn third place in their final two games against Nottingham Forest and Brighton, having already guaranteed their spot in the Champions League for the upcoming season.
Now, the focus is on bolstering the team for the upcoming campaign. Although midfield is said to be the club’s primary goal for the transfer window, they are also eager to add a new central defender if the appropriate chance arises.
This season, Pavlovic—who has been called “dominant”—has proved to be an important member of Milan’s team as the Rossoneri contested for the Serie A championship but ultimately lost to their regional rivals, Inter.
With concerns over the futures of Matthijs De Ligt and Lisandro Martinez, the Red Devils have now made the powerful 24-year-old a target as they attempt to bolster their defence.
Man United above all in race to sign 24-year-old
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Allegri and AC Milan have designated Pavlovic as the backline’s point of reference this season. He hasn’t let last season define him, so this is a suitable reward for his performance this season.
The Serbian international is, of course, drawing suitors. Milan is aware of his rising stature, and Manchester United is “on his trail”. According to reports, Michael Carrick’s team is “above all” in the competition.
They will stop at nothing to keep him at the club and have no plans to break ways with him. All of this is contingent upon their Champions League qualifying, which is now in jeopardy.
It would be AC Milan’s second straight season outside of the Champions League if they don’t make it. Like every other Italian team, this will have a major financial impact on them. Milan may thus anticipate a sale to Manchester United. In 2024, Milan paid just €18 million for him, making a capital gain simple.
