Manchester United are gearing up to launch an eye-catching £60 million bid for AC Milan’s electric winger, Rafael Leao, as they aggressively pursue fresh attacking talent this summer.
Manchester United prepare £60 million bid for AC Milan star Rafael Leao
The pursuit reflects the Red Devils’ urgent desire to inject pace, flair, and goals into an offense that stumbled to a disappointing 15th-place finish in the Premier League last season.
According to multiple reports, United have identified Leao as their top striking option after already securing signings such as Matheus Cunha and targeting Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo.
CaughtOffside reveals the club intends to table an initial offer of about £60 million, contingent on offloading current wingers to balance the squad and finances.
Leao, 26, has been a stalwart for AC Milan since joining in 2019. In a season that saw the Rossoneri miss out on European qualification, he still delivered a respectable 12 goals and 13 assists in roughly 50 appearances across all competitions.
His dynamism and one-on-one ability have earned wide acclaim; former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher once dubbed him “absolutely devastating”.
Portugal captain Bruno Fernandes also continues to champion his international teammate.
Speaking to Sky Italia earlier this month, Fernandes praised Leao’s “enormous talent,” adding, “he is a phenomenal player who can give us something more”.
Their shared time at Sporting Lisbon and in the national side strengthens United’s appeal in the player’s eyes.
However, Milan’s stance won’t be easy to budge. The Rossoneri reportedly value Leao at around €175 million (£150 million) due to a release clause in his contract that runs until June 2028, although they may soften to a price between £68–85 million should negotiations progress.
Adding complexity, United face stiff competition from Europe’s elite. Arsenal, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Barcelona are all reportedly considering bids.
Bayern, though, have recently cooled their interest amid internal reservations over Leao’s fit and attitude.
With the clock ticking on the summer window, United must act decisively. Their ambition to reignite a stagnant attack may hinge on securing a player of Leao’s caliber someone who can electrify Old Trafford with moments of genuine brilliance.
