Sancho’s tenure at Old Trafford has been utterly disappointing, falling short of the high price United spent to get him from Bundesliga team Borussia Dortmund. The English winger, who has been sent out on loan several times, is presently at Aston Villa, another Premier League side, but Unai Emery’s squad is far from certain to start him.
At the time, it wasn’t shocking that United paid over £70 million to sign Sancho because the former Manchester City player was doing well in the Bundesliga. In retrospect, the payment appears to have been a grave error, as Sancho’s time at Old Trafford appears to have ended without much of an effect.
When Sancho’s contract ends next summer, Manchester United is prepared to let him go for free, according to a report from talkSPORT. The Red Devils have the option to extend his contract by one more year, but they would prefer to take the chance of him departing for nothing than be forced to pay him £200,000 a week.
Man Utd ready to let Jadon Sancho leave for free
His time at Old Trafford has been more Lost Soul than Red Devil. Every loan transfer, whether it was to Villa, Chelsea, or Dortmund, seemed like another uncomfortable date when both parties pretended everything was going well while secretly messaging their agents beneath the table. Even Aston Villa doesn’t appear to be all that keen on extending this partnership.
Since joining Villa on loan during the summer transfer window, Sancho has not yet made a league start, therefore it is unlikely that the Midlands team would be prepared to pay a price for him. Sancho has been on loan at Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund, and now Villa; the first two teams were hesitant to sign him on a long-term basis.
United is thus contemplating the possibility of letting him leave for free and removing him from their payroll. The Manchester club will have a very hard time finding a buyer, even though they would probably prefer to sell him rather than lose him for free.
