Jose Mourinho is keen to sign a new centre-back this summer

Manchester United are looking to bolster their squad this summer after an underwhelming campaign last season, not winning a single silverware. Their priority is to add defensive reinforcements and may sell few players in order to accommodate new signings.

Despite having the most clean sheets and the second best defensive record in the Premier League last term, Jose Mourinho is still not happy as he had to rely on auxiliary full-backs and failed to settle on a consistent central defensive axis due to injuries and inconsistency.

The Red Devils boss is keen to add another centre-back to his ranks this summer despite spending big on defenders in the past two years. He has eyed many options in the past few months.

Italian outlet TMW report that Premier League giant’s top brass are keen on the Napoli ace Kalidou Koulibaly.

Koulibaly joined the Serie A giants from Belgian side KRC Genk in the summer of 2014 for a reported fee of just £7 million. He has been a mainstay at the club since then and has establish himself as one of the best defenders in the world.

The 26 year old year has made 161 appearances for the club, scoring 8 goals in all competitions. Under former manager Maurizio Sarri, the Senegalese performances have improved almost beyond recognition, especially from a technical point of view.

The centre-back was a regular for the Italian side last season, managing to make 43 appearances in all competitions and helped his team to finish 2nd in the league behind Juventus.

The Senegal International has been linked with a summer exit with Chelsea also showing interest in him. But their managerial situation is still not resolved and United could act fast in order to land him.

Partenopei are expected to demand upwards of £70 million for their star defender, who is set to star at the World Cup in Russia.
