Manchester United are willing to pay Chelsea's asking price for Willian

Jose Mourinho wants more deals before the transfer window closes

Manchester United are looking to bolster their squad in the transfer window after an underwhelming campaign last season, not winning a single silverware. They finished second in the Premier League, 19 points behind Manchester City.

The Red Devils are expected to be busy in the summer transfer window and they have already completed three signings, teenage full-back Diogo Dalot has signed from Porto, while a £52.5 million fee has been agreed with Shakhtar Donetsk for Brazil international Fred and Lee Grant from Stoke City.

But Jose Mourinho wants to sign more players before the transfer window closes and is still continuing a pursuit of a new winger. He wants someone to liven up his side’s attack next season and has been linked with a move for Willian for a long time, who he has previously worked with.

The Brazil International joined Chelsea from Anzhi Makhachkalab for a reported fee of £30 million in 2013. The Winger has been one of the most constant players for them in the last three years.

The Brazilian was a crucial player for the Blues in both their Premier League winning campaign, 2014/2015 and 2016/2017. He was their stand out player in the 2015/2016 campaign, when the club under performed and finished outside the top 4.

He may not dazzle as much as his more fanciful teammates at club or national team level likes of Eden Hazard and Neymar, but rare is the game where he doesn’t display obvious effort, determination, and commitment to the cause.

But the 29 year old was used sparingly last season by Antonio Conte and mostly came on as a substitute. Though the campaign was his best ever tally with 13 goals and 12 assists in 55 appearances and and was one of the standout players, as the club finished 5th in the Premier League.

He was frustrated with the lack of regular football last term and admitted to finding life on the bench difficult. He has been heavily linked with a summer exit in recent weeks, with Barcelona also showing interest in him.

The Catalan giants failed with multiple bids and Mourinho’s side received further boost when they completed the signing of Malcom instead.
