Manchester United Considering Gareth Southgate For Managerial Post

Manchester United are reportedly considering Gareth Southgate for the permanent managerial post.

The England head coach has been added to the long list of suitors after Jose Mourinho’s sacking late into 2018. Ed Woodward and the rest of the managerial board clearly see Tottenham Hotspur’s Mauricio Pochettino to be the ideal person for the job but fears that the Argentine might stay put at North London.

Pochettino has been vocal about his allegiance to Spurs and even went on to express his wishes of staying with the club for the next 20 years. The 46-year-old took charge of Tottenham in 2014 after an impressive stint with Southampton and has turned the club into serious title contenders.

He has also delivered Champions League football in 3 of the 4 seasons he has been with the side. However, his reluctance to move out of White Hart Lane has provoked the Red Devils hierarchy to look into alternate options.

Southgate might have impressed the English nationals by taking the country to the semi-finals of the 2018 FIFA World Cup but he lacks wholesome managerial experience at club level. His longest stretch as manager was with Middlesbrough for 3 years.

The 48-year-old has also agreed to stay with the England national team until the 2022 World Cup.

Current interim boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also a strong candidate for the position after his impressive start with United.
