Michael Carrick will move to bring Marcus Rashford back to Manchester United this summer if he is appointed as the club’s permanent manager.
Carrick Plans to Bring Rashford Back to Old Trafford
Reports state the interim boss has made the recall of the forward a primary objective.
Rashford currently plays for Barcelona, having joined the Spanish club on a season-long loan last August after falling out of favor under previous United manager Ruben Amorim. The loan deal did not include a January recall option for United.
The 28-year-old English international has rediscovered his form in La Liga, contributing nine goals and twelve assists in 31 appearances.
Barcelona hold an option to make the move permanent for a reported £26 million and are understood to be keen to retain him.
However, Carrick, who played alongside Rashford at Old Trafford and later coached him, is a firm admirer.
He believes Rashford can be a key figure in his proposed project at United and will request the club’s hierarchy to block a permanent sale and reintegrate the player into his squad.
The situation presents a complex decision for United. While Rashford’s significant wages would return to the ledger, his market value and current performance level make him an attractive asset. Barcelona are expected to formally attempt to trigger their purchase clause.
For now, Rashford remains a Barcelona player and is reportedly settled in Spain. The club’s manager, Hansi Flick, recently acknowledged the player’s good performances but deferred future decisions to the sporting department.
The ultimate outcome now appears heavily linked to who is in the United dugout next season, with Carrick firmly signaling his intentions.
