Manchester United eyeing Portugal Playmaker Otavio

Recent reports suggest that Manchester United are keen on signing Porto midfielder Otavio in the upcoming transfer window

Otavio has been a key player for Porto over his six-and-a-half seasons in Liga NOS, scoring 24 goals and assisting 61 times in 228 games across all competitions.

So far this season, the Portugal international has appeared in 25 league games for the Dragons, scoring three goals and assisting on 11 occasions.

Otavio plays largely in the attacking midfield position, where his technical ability allow him to carry the ball forward, take on defenders, and link up offensive play to make things easier for the front men.

Running into the channels between opposing defences, the 27-year-old makes chance creation and conversion far easier for his team, as evidenced by his statistics this season, averaging 1.8 shots, two key passes, 1.1 dribbles, 0.6 crosses, and 2.3 long balls per 90 minutes in the Portuguese top-flight.

Rashford has been in poor form in recent months, and Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard are both expected to leave the club in the summer. Juan Mata’s contract will also expire at the end of the season.

Given the circumstances, Manchester United want some new attacking recruits if they are to bolster their current group – and Otavio fits the description well.

He has many domestic medals with the Blue and Whites and will offer much-needed depth and experience to the United team at the age of 27. As a result, Rangnick should endeavour to close this agreement in the next months.
