Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves has expressed concern that the club could part ways with Alejandro Garnacho before the January transfer window closes.

Owen Hargreaves thinks Manchester United could sell Alejandro Garnacho

The 19-year-old winger, once hailed as one of United’s most exciting prospects, has been linked with a surprise move to Premier League rivals Chelsea, sparking fears among fans and pundits alike.

Garnacho’s future at Old Trafford has been the subject of intense speculation this month.

Despite being a fan favorite, the Argentine has experienced a dip in form over the past year and was notably left out of last month’s Manchester derby.

Reports suggested that manager Ruben Amorim was unimpressed with Garnacho’s training output, raising questions about his place in the squad.

However, the young winger has fought his way back into Amorim’s plans, featuring in all seven of United’s games in January.

His impact was particularly evident during Thursday’s 2-0 Europa League victory over Steaua Bucuresti, where he came on at half-time and played a key role in turning the game around.

Despite his contributions, there is growing concern that this could be Garnacho’s final appearance in a United shirt.

Hargreaves, who was part of the TNT Sports commentary team for the match, admitted he is worried about the possibility of Garnacho leaving.

“Big time,” he said when asked if United selling the youngster was a concern.

“They might need the money to get other players in to suit the manager’s formation.

But you’d like to think you’d keep these brilliant, young players at the football club.”

While Hargreaves hopes Garnacho stays, former United striker Louis Saha has a different perspective.

Saha believes the club should consider selling Garnacho and fellow academy product Kobbie Mainoo if a lucrative offer arrives.

“Football is a business,” Saha said.

“If the money is good, then maybe you take it while you can.”

For now, Garnacho’s future remains uncertain. United fans will be hoping the club prioritizes nurturing their young talent over cashing in, but with Chelsea circling and financial pressures mounting, the next few days could prove pivotal for the Argentine’s career.
