Following his exclusion from the Bees’ squad for their trip to Liverpool, Ivan Toney, a striker for Brentford, is rumoured to have his move confirmed within the next 24 hours. After making it known throughout last season that he desired a “big move,” Toney’s future at the London club has been in doubt for the entire summer. The 28-year-old was unavoidably connected to a move to Old Trafford in light of Manchester United’s summer transfer window pursuit of strikers.
Joshua Zirkzee was added by United manager Erik ten Hag to the squad, but following Rasmus Hojlund’s injury, rumours that the Reds might make a last-ditch effort to sign him returned. Toney was not included in the Brentford side that defeated Crystal Palace the previous weekend, and he was not included in the Sunday lineup against Anfield.
Manchester United urged to hijack £50m transfer with Toney
In the competition to recruit England international Ivan Toney from Brentford, Manchester United has been urged to overtake Saudi Pro League team Al-Ahli. In the last month of his contract, Toney has been linked to other Big Six teams, including Manchester United, but it appears like Al-Ahli will be his most likely next stop. He is currently in his final year of employment.
Stan Collymore has stated why a move to Al-Ahli would be “dreadful for him,” and it has been reported that Toney’s outrageous wage demands have turned off Premier League clubs. It’s noteworthy because at 28, he may become 31 years old if, as has been rumoured, he signs a three-year contract with the Saudi Pro League. By then, no one in the top 10 Premier League teams would be interested in signing him, Collymore added.
