In light of connections to Harry Kane, a teammate from Bayern Munich, Manchester United has been ordered to bring former Fulham star Joao Palhinha back to the Premier League.
When Palhinha was purchased by Fulham from Sporting CP for £20 million in July 2022, he made his debut in England. Because of his amazing appetite for challenges and duels, Palhinha developed into one of the top defensive midfielders in the league during his two years at Craven Cottage.
Several of the Premier League’s major teams, including Manchester United, Liverpool, and Arsenal, were connected to the Portugal player last summer. However, he paid €56 million to join Bayern Munich instead.
However, Palhinha’s debut season in Bavaria has been frustrating due to his struggles with fitness and his rotation by manager Vincent Kompany. But Palhinha is still an excellent No. 6. He might become a target for Manchester United this summer as they look to replace Casemiro in the midfield.
According to former Liverpool and Bayern star Didi Hamann, the 29-year-old could be a game-changer for United’s success under Ruben Amorim.
Man United urged to go after Bayern Munich midfielder this summer
Journalist Christian Falk claims that while Bayern prepares for a roster makeover, they are “planning to sell” Palhinha. The club hopes to recoup some of the €51 million [£42 million] they gave Fulham in 2024, Falk continues. In the Bundesliga, he is regarded as a bit of a bust signing.
He still enjoys a positive reputation in the Premier League, though, thanks to his previous efforts with the Cottagers, which Bayern thinks will be sufficient to attract fair offers. It is well known that club managers agree with Bayern manager Vincent Kompany, who does not like the Portugal international and believes he is unnecessary.
Palhinha is thought to be eager to fight for his spot at Bayern, but with players like Leon Goretzka and Aleksandar Pavlović ahead of him in the hierarchy, the decision may be made for him.
United could use a player with his qualities, but it’s unclear if they will rekindle their interest in the 29-year-old. He contributes intensity to the midfield and is an aggressive ball-winner, as was previously mentioned.
