Manchester United have initiated contact for World Cup star

Jose Mourinho wants to sign more players before transfer window closes

Manchester United are looking to bolster their squad in the transfer window after an underwhelming campaign last season, not winning a single silverware. They finished second in the Premier League, 19 points behind Manchester City.

The Red Devils are expected to be busy in the summer transfer window and they have already completed three signings, teenage full-back Diogo Dalot has signed from Porto, while a £52.5 million fee has been agreed with Shakhtar Donetsk for Brazil international Fred and Lee Grant from Stoke City.

But Jose Mourinho wants to sign more players before the transfer window closes and is still continuing a pursuit of a new winger. He wants someone to liven up his side’s attack next season and has been linked with a move for Willian and Ivan Perisic, and is now targeting another World Cup star.

Manchester United have contacted Ante Rebic’s agent regarding a potential move for the Eintracht Frankfurt winger, reports Sport Bild.

The Croatia International joined the German side from Fiorentina on a season-long loan in 2016. In 2017, his loan deal was extended by further one year with an option to buy.

The winger’s appearance in the starting line-up for the victory against Heidenheim meant that he has made the requisite number of outings in an Eintracht shirt for his ownership rights to be automatically transferred to the Bundesliga club as of 1 July 2018.

His contract was automatically extended until the summer of 2021 at the beginning of this month. He was one of the stand out players for the club last season, scoring nine goals and assisting two in 32 appearances in all competitions.

The 24 year old was very impressive for Croatia in this year’s World Cup as he grabbed attention with an excellent opening goal in his side’s 3-0 win over Argentina and helped the team to reach the finals, where they were defeated by France.

Rebic’s performances in Russia caught the attention of many clubs which includes the Premier League giants. They are reportedly willing to pay up to £50 million for him.
