Manchester United have no intention of selling Chris Smalling

The player has been recently linked with a exit

Chris Smalling joined Manchester United from Fulham for an undisclosed fee in 2010. He’s won two Premier League title, the FA Cup, EFL Cup and the Europa League since being snapped up by Sir Alex Ferguson.

The England International featured regularly for the Red Devils last season, making 34 appearances in all competitions. He helped the team to finish 2nd in the league behind Manchester City, their highest league finish since they won the Premier League back in 2013.

The 28 year old is currently one of five first-team centre-backs currently on the books at the club. Despite being a mainstay in the defense for the past few years, he has often being criticized for being inconsistent.

The cente-back’s indifferent form last term costed him a place in the England World Cup squad and has been linked with a summer exit. Jose Mourinho has prioritized signing a new defender in this transfer window and has been linked with a move for Toby Alderweireld, Leonardo Bonucci, Yerry Mina an few more.

There were reports earlier this week that the English defender could be sold to Wolves, who has been very busy in this transfer window after earning promotion to the Premier League.

But BBC reporter Simon Stone has dismissed the speculations that Smalling could leave Old Trafford this summer.

Stone wrote on Twitter as quoted by Daily Star: “No idea where those Chris Smalling rumours started but he is not leaving Man Utd. Club no intention to sell.”

He even dismissed the speculations of leaving the Premier League giants last month.

“I think it helps by the fact that we have such a busy schedule,” Smalling told ESPN.

“More often than not we’re playing every two or three days and pretty much all your focus is just put on training, put on games and listening to the manager and what he wants you to do.

“Obviously, you can’t get away from certain noise, but it’s a case of I am so focused on the pitch that I just want to keep putting on performances and keep building that manager’s trust in me to play me every game.”
