Manchester United have no interest to reignite interest in Premier League ace

The Red Devils are targeting another Premier League star

Manchester United are looking to bolster their squad in the transfer window after an underwhelming campaign last season, not winning a single silverware. They finished second in the Premier League, 19 points behind Manchester City.

The Red Devils are expected to be busy in the summer transfer window and they have already completed two signings, teenage full-back Diogo Dalot has signed from Porto, while a £52.5 million fee has been agreed with Shakhtar Donetsk for Brazil international Fred.

Despite having the most clean sheets and the second best defensive record in the Premier League last term, Jose Mourinho was not happy as he had to rely on auxiliary full-backs and failed to settle on a consistent central defensive axis due to injuries and inconsistency.

The Portuguese manager is targeting a top class centre-back this summer despite spending big on defenders in the past two years. He is even willing to delay a move for a left-back and stick with Ashley Young and Luke Shaw as their two options this season.

They were linked with a move for Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld, who has been heavily linked with a summer exit.

Spurs have struggled to come to terms with the Belgium International’s high wage demands. They do not want pay such high wages and are willing sell him this summer at the right price as he has a release clause in his contract which will drop his value to £25 million next summer.

The Belgian International just made three appearances since returning from injury back in February. Though Mauricio Pochettino claimed that his absence is not due to contract situations but it’s hard to believe because the defender was one of the first names in the starting XI before transfer talk was sparked.

But Mourinho’s side value the former Southampton ace at about £20 million less than his asking price of £70 million. The London club refused to lower their asking price and dell fell though.

Manchester United currently have no plan to reignite interest in Alderweireld according to The Sun. They are instead focusing on Leicester City’s centre-back Harry Maguire, who has had an excellent World Cup campaign.
