Manchester United hoping to sign Porto star this week

Diogo Dalot has been followed extensively by the Red Devils in recent months

Manchester United are looking to bolster their squad in the transfer window after an underwhelming campaign this season, not winning a single silverware. Their priority is to add defensive reinforcements as the club will also sell few players to accommodate new signings.

Despite having the most clean sheets and the second best defensive record in the Premier League, Jose Mourinho is not happy as he had to rely on auxiliary full-backs Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia. Both of them are going to turn 33 before the start of the next season.

Luke Shaw and Matteo Darmian are expected to leave the club this summer after failing to establish themselves under Mourinho.

The Portuguese manager has prioritized the signing of two new full-backs in the summer as the club looks for a long term solution in the wide areas. The club have shown interest in few right-backs and one of them is Porto ace Diogo Dalot, who has been followed extensively by them in recent months.

Dalot broke into the club’s first team this term and made only 7 senior appearances for them. But the Red Devils have been impressed enough by his early form for the Primeira Liga giants to make a move for him.

The 19 year old is a natural right-back but has shown his versatility by playing at the left-back position few times this campaign. He has been a member of the Portugal side which won the Euro Under-17 Championship, while 12 months on he was a beaten finalist in the Under-19 edition.

The Premier League giants are hopeful of signing Dalot before the end of this week, Goal understands. They are ready to pay his buyout clause of €20 million and he could be their first summer signing.
