Antoine Griezmann could surprisingly end up at Manchester United after reports revealed that Barcelona were hesitant towards signing the Atletico Madrid forward.
Bringing him into the Camp Nou would almost immediately call for Philippe Coutinho’s exit and the Blaugrana are unsure about executing that this summer. Griezmann only announced his plans to leave Atletico last weekend and is now simply waiting for an offer from the La Liga champions.
Instead, he has been met with an offer from the Red Devils who have reportedly contacted him to discuss personal terms. United have been after the World Cup winner for quite some time now, registering their interests in him since they were managed by Jose Mourinho.
The lack of Champions League football obviously places them at a severe disadvantage but the bosses at Old Trafford are hoping to convince Griezmann with mammoth wages.
If Barcelona refuse to make the 28-year-old an offer by end of the summer transfer window, United could easily swoop him up since they are only other serious suitors. Griezmann has very publicly stated his wish to leave the Wanda Metropolitana after yet another season of not winning any trophies.
His release clause is worth €120m which would break Paul Pogba’s record of being the most expensive player in Manchester United’s history but at Barcelona, Griezmann will only be the third-most expensive transfer, behind Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele.
