Cody Gakpo has responded to rumours that he might transfer to Manchester United in January.

The forward had discussions with United last summer, but no agreement could be reached since the club wanted to focus on bringing in Antony from Ajax as their final summer addition.

Gakpo has only grown more prosperous ever since. One of the top scorers in the world of football right now, he scored three goals for the Netherlands at the World Cup to demonstrate his prolific goalscoring skills on the largest platform.

Gakpo has put up impressive stats for a player his age (23), tallying 13 goals and 17 assists in 24 matches for PSV at the club level. He is a proficient finisher, which is something United really needs to work on as they currently sit 11th in Premier League scoring with only 20 goals in the first half of the season.

Anthony Martial, United’s No. 9, has additionally struggled to stay in shape since August. The Frenchman has so far missed 15 games due to injury.

Cristiano Ronaldo also left the club last month after a mutual decision was made to end his contract early. While this was the wisest course of action for both parties, it further depletes United’s front lineup.
