United extended their unbeaten run to five matches with a 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, but off the pitch, the club’s patience with Sancho appears to have reached its limit.

According to Fichajes, United have decided not to renew the winger’s contract, which expires at the end of the season, and are prepared to let him leave as a free agent.

Sancho, 25, joined Manchester United from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 amid high expectations following his excellent spell in Germany.

However, the England international has struggled to replicate that form at Old Trafford, scoring only 12 goals in 83 appearances across all competitions.

After falling down the pecking order, Sancho has spent recent seasons on loan — first returning to Dortmund and later joining Chelsea — before sealing a temporary move to Aston Villa last summer.

His stint at Villa Park has also failed to impress so far, with the winger yet to contribute a goal or an assist in eight appearances.

United, who are looking to rebuild under Amorim’s guidance, see little sense in continuing with Sancho’s £175,000-per-week deal.

The club’s hierarchy reportedly believes that parting ways with the player will allow them to focus on more consistent performers and reinvest the saved wages into future signings.

While Sancho’s future remains uncertain, a number of clubs across Europe could take interest in the winger once he becomes a free agent.

However, United’s decision to release him marks a disappointing end to what was once seen as one of English football’s brightest prospects.
