Ruben Amorim- Man Utd Manager

Manchester United are positioning themselves as the frontrunner in the race to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher, according to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes.

Man Utd Plot January Swoop for Atletico’s Gallagher

The 25-year-old Englishman is said to be keen on a return to the Premier League, and United are reportedly considering making an offer for his services.

United’s interest in Gallagher highlights their ongoing efforts to strengthen their midfield.

The club was previously linked with a move for Brighton’s Carlos Baleba and considered a loan move for Gallagher during the recent summer transfer window.

Manager Ruben Amorim is thought to be seeking a dynamic midfielder who can cover large spaces and is comfortable in possession, qualities that Gallagher has demonstrated during his previous spells in England with Chelsea and Crystal Palace.

The report suggests that Gallagher’s profile fits the requirements of Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system.

Any move for the midfielder will not come cheap. Atletico Madrid have reportedly placed a price tag of between £50 million and £52 million on Gallagher, who still has four years remaining on his contract.

The Spanish club is under no pressure to sell and would be reluctant to lose a squad member midway through the season.

While Tottenham Hotspur were leading the pursuit for Gallagher during the summer and are expected to renew their interest, the latest information indicates that Manchester United are now the club “most interested” in securing a deal.

Newcastle United and Crystal Pxsalace have also been linked with the player.

Gallagher’s potential arrival at Old Trafford would address a key area of need, with the team having struggled with midfield balance in the early part of the season.
