Jose Mourinho has received criticism from Eric Cantona

Manchester United legend Eric Cantona has criticised Jose Mourinho. Cantona thinks that Mourinho’s playing style lacks fun and creativity and that Pep Guardiola is a better choice to manage United.

Manchester United have endured a rocky start to the Premier League. They began with a 2-1 win over Leicester City but lost two successive matches against Brighton and Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur. The defeat to Tottenham came at home. These two defeats saw many criticising Jose Mourinho. However, the Red Devils beat Burnley last weekend.

When Cantona was asked about Manchester United’s Premier League campaign, he replied, “Well, no — not so good. But it is early in the season… too early to tell.

Manchester United is a great club and will always be great. They will win things, I know they will. But the way they play? Not good. The manager has them playing the wrong way for the fans. No fun, no creativity.

I like Mourinho. He has a good personality but not for United — they should have [Pep] Guardiola as coach. He should be there, but he is doing magic with that other club. The club I cannot name.”

The Manchester United legend added, “Listen. I joke about Manchester City but they are playing great football. It’s just that I think Guardiola should be at United. He is the spiritual child of Johan Cruyff — he played under Cruyff at Barcelona and learned everything from him. He’s the only person who should be at United.”

Manchester United are currently 10th in the Premier League table. Following the end of the ongoing international break, the Red Devils play Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday. This will be a difficult match for United as Watford are yet to lose a single match. Their four wins also include beating Tottenham.

Four days after the Watford match, Manchester United begin their Champions League campaign against Swiss club Young Boys at Bern.
