Man United will have to equal the British transfer record if they want to acquire Joao Felix on a permanent basis.

According to transfer insider Dean Jones, Manchester United could look to tempt Atletico Madrid into sanctioning Joao Felix’s exit by offering an initial loan move to Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag will have the opportunity to improve his squad when the winter window opens for business next month.

As per the reports of Spanish sources, the Red Devils are monitoring Felix’s situation as they are looking to fill the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo.

But, the report adds Arsenal are leading the race for the Atletico attacker’s signature, while Chelsea and PSG are also among his suitors.

Jones has previously told GIVEMESPORT that the Portugal international is ‘open’ to swapping Atletico for the Premier League and it has emerged that a January switch could be on the cards.

That is because, in an interview with TVE – via MailOnline – Atletico chief executive Miguel Angel Gil revealed Felix wants to seal his departure and suitable offers will be considered after falling out with boss Diego Simeone.

Jones admits the Red Devils will have to equal the British transfer record, set when rivals Manchester City signed Jack Grealish last year, if they want to acquire Felix on a permanent basis.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “I think £100m is a fair price for him, I really do. But I’m not sure it’s a likely scenario for any Premier League club to pay that in the next month.

“It is very rare for clubs to consider that level of investment in the January market. Perhaps somebody could look to do some sort of loan deal initially, with scope to signing him long-term, if Atletico seem open to that.”

Felix scored once and provided a further two assists while at the World Cup, but he was unable to stop Fernando Santos’ men from crashing out of the competition at the hands of Morocco at the quarter-final stage.
