Manchester United are making a dramatic late push to sign Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall before the transfer window slams shut, with the Red Devils desperate to bring in competition for under-fire left-back Luke Shaw.

According to reports from the Daily Mail, United have identified the 21-year-old as their primary defensive target. However, convincing Newcastle to part with the England international will prove an enormous challenge.
The Magpies have already sanctioned the departures of Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali, and Bruno Guimaraes this summer and are determined not to lose another key asset.
It would reportedly take a staggering bid in excess of £75 million for Newcastle to even consider doing business on the final day.
Manager Matthias Jaissle has already emphatically stated there is “no chance” of Hall leaving Tyneside this summer, while the club have even opened contract talks with the former Chelsea academy product in a bid to fend off interest.
United have completely rebuilt their midfield this window, bringing in Carlos Baleba, Youri Tielemans, and Andrey Santos.
But with Shaw struggling in Sunday’s 5-2 victory over Ipswich, the need for a left-back has become urgent.
Club legend Paul Scholes has publicly urged Michael Carrick’s side to make a late move, though United have already seen approaches for alternative targets Alejandro Balde and Ian Maatsen rejected.
With the clock ticking and Newcastle standing firm, United may be forced to postpone their pursuit of Hall until next summer.
