According to reports, Manchester United are increasingly confident of tying down David de Gea to a new deal. The Spaniard signed his previous deal in 2015 and has been locked in negotiations over a new contract for the past 12 months.
De Gea was seeking assurances over United’s ambitions and was adamant on staying put with Jose Mourinho in charge or with Solskjaer as an interim boss. The 28-year-old was also keen on having a salary on par with that of Alexis Sanchez, who is the highest earner at the club.
However, he is set to become the second-highest-paid player at United after the Red Devils offered him £375,000 per week to stay put. The deal worth £91m in five years will also make De Gea the highest-paid goalkeeper in the world.
The Spanish shot-stopper is expected to put pen to paper to the new deal once United return from their pre-season.
