According to reports from French outlet L’Equipe, Manchester United could hijack Tottenham’s deal for Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele.

The Red Devils have been scouring the market for a midfielder who can replace Ander Herrera and view Ndombele as one of the options to fill his boots.

The 22-year-old is already rumoured to be on the brink of joining United’s rivals Tottenham after the North London club reportedly agreed on a £55m deal and £10m add-ons. He was also said to be close to a medical according to L’Equipe. But the Frenchman is yet to agree on personal terms with the Lillywhites.

United’s pursuit of Ndombele has apparently slowed down because of Paul Pogba’s precarious situation at Old Trafford. The World Cup winner’s future at the club yet to reach a concrete conclusion. However, the Red Devils could turn their attention to making a last-ditch attempt to sign the Lyon midfielder if the United star decides to quit.

Ndombele scored one goal and registered seven assists in 31 appearances for Lyon last season. The Frenchman’s strengths lie in his passing accuracy and ability to beat the opponents with his dribbling.

The 22-year-old could become Tottenham’s most expensive signing since Mauricio Pochettino signed Davinson Sanchez for £42m. He will also be Tottenham’s first recruit since the club roped in Lucas Moura in January 2018.
