Manchester United are intensifying their efforts to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko before the summer transfer window closes, facing growing competition from Newcastle United.
Manchester United Accelerate Benjamin Sesko Pursuit as Newcastle Threat Looms
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils plan to hold crucial internal discussions within the next week.
These talks will involve manager Ruben Amorim, club directors, and financial officials to determine if they can structure a deal for the Slovenian international. Romano highlighted the urgency, stating the situation demands attention in the next 7-10 days.
This urgency stems from Newcastle United’s active interest. Reports indicate the Magpies are preparing a significant offer for the 22-year-old forward, forcing Manchester United to move swiftly if they want to secure his signature.
Leipzig are likely to demand a fee in the region of £60 million for their prized asset. United see Sesko as the perfect attacking partner for their major summer signing, Matheus Cunha.
The Brazilian playmaker, a £62.5m arrival, possesses a proven track record of creating high-quality chances in the Premier League from his role as an attacking midfielder or second striker.
However, during his time at Wolves, Cunha’s creative output often went unrewarded due to teammates’ poor finishing.
Sesko presents the ideal solution. The young striker built a strong reputation in Germany for his clinical finishing, consistently outperforming his expected goals (xG) in both the Bundesliga and Champions League last season.
His efficiency in front of goal demonstrated by scoring 14 goals from just 7.66 xG in the 2023/24 Bundesliga campaign suggests he possesses the lethal touch Cunha’s creativity needs.
Securing Sesko would complete a significant overhaul of United’s attack, partnering him with Cunha and fellow new arrival Bryan Mbeumo.
The club now faces a critical decision in the coming days: commit the necessary funds to beat Newcastle to Sesko’s signature and provide Amorim with a potentially transformative finisher.
