As per the reports from ESPN, Manchester United are ready to loosen their strings and spend £45m to sign West Ham defender Issa Diop this summer.

The Red Devils are looking at a number of options to strengthen their defence and have been impressed by the 22-year-old, who joined the Hammers just a year ago from Toulouse.

United are expected to open the bidding for Diop this week. Although West Ham don’t want to sell, a concrete offer as good as £45m would be too good for them to refuse. They could also use Phil Jones as a makeweight to sweeten the deal if the need arises.

Solskjaer has been eyeing a number of defenders such as Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt this summer. However, United are out of the race for de Ligt and have been outpriced by Maguire’s evaluation.

The Red Devils have already spent £65m this summer, roping in Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Swansea and Crystal Palace respectively.
