According to the latest reports, Christian Eriksen has told Tottenham Hotspur he has no interest in signing a contract extension.
This comes as a huge contradiction to his teammate’s attitude, Toby Alderweirald, who tied down his services to Spurs till June 2023 on Friday.
Jose Mourinho admitted he had little to do with the Belgian’s change of heart but we all know that is far from the truth. The Portuguese’s arrival has given the side a huge boost of confidence with them winning 5 of their last 7 games and relaunching the fight for a top-four spot.
Mourinho, however, has not been able to convince Eriksen into staying that is a huge boost for Manchester United. The Red Devils are thought to be highly interested in the 27-year-old who’s contract is set to end in another six months.
Another Tottenham player who has not committed to the club long term is Jan Vertonghen. Spurs however, will derive more value from Eriksen, given his demand in the market. They would also be willing to cash in on him this January to avoid losing him for nothing in June 2020.
United are in dire need of playmaker and keeping Paul Pogba does not seem to be a realistic option. Will they pursue a deal for the Dane is left to be seen.
