Manchester United receives boost in pursuit of Ante Rebic

The player’s club is not ruling out a summer move

Ante Rebić joined Eintracht Frankfurt from Fiorentina on a season-long loan in 2016 and was impressive for them. In 2017, his loan deal was extended by further one year with an option to buy and he scored nine goals in all competitions.

The winger’s appearance in the starting line-up for the victory against Heidenheim meant that he has made the requisite number of outings in an Eintracht shirt for his ownership rights to be automatically transferred to the Bundesliga club as of 1 July 2018.

His contract was automatically extended until the summer of 2021 at the beginning of this month. He was one of the stand out players for the German club last season, scoring nine goals and assisting two in 32 appearances in all competitions.

The 24 year old has been very impressive for Croatia in this year’s World Cup as he grabbed attention with an excellent opening goal in his side’s 3-0 win over Argentina and helped the team to reach the finals, where they will face France on Sunday.

The Croatia International’s heroics at the World Cup have only enhanced his reputation and has been linked to host of clubs which includes Manchester United.

Jose Mourinho is looking to bolster his forward line this summer as he wants someone to liven up his side’s attack next season, who were the lowest scoring team in the top four last season.

The Red Devils are keen to sign him, as the squad lack a natural right flank. And they have received a boost in their pursuit of him.

Bundesliga side’s sporting director Fredi Bobic says that they have not received any offer for their star player but admits they are not ruling out a move for him.

“I am very happy about the success of Ante Rebic with the Croatian national team,” Bobic told Sport1. “The players and the coaching team are watching the World Cup games together in the training camp in the USA and, of course, are especially excited about Ante.

“So far, there are no offers available and we’re planning a steady season with Ante Rebic for the new season.

“Of course we know that a lot can happen when a big club makes an offer.

“We cannot compete economically with the big ones, but that’s nothing new.”
