Manchester United may soon have an opportunity to part ways with underperforming Brazilian winger Antony, as reports from Spain suggest LaLiga side Real Betis are exploring a potential deal.

Antony, who joined United for a hefty £82 million from Ajax in the summer of 2022, has failed to live up to expectations.

Despite being a familiar player for former manager Erik ten Hag, Antony struggled to adapt to the Premier League, contributing just 12 goals and five assists in 93 appearances.

His inconsistent performances have seen him sidelined, first under Ten Hag and now under new boss Ruben Amorim.

According to ABC Sevilla, Real Betis, managed by former Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini, have made initial inquiries about signing the winger in January.

The proposal reportedly centers around a six-month loan deal, with the possibility of making the move permanent after the loan period.

While it remains unclear if Manchester United would agree to such a deal, Real Betis are reportedly willing to shoulder a significant portion of Antony’s £200,000-a-week wages.

To facilitate the move, Betis are said to be considering the sale of 19-year-old winger Assane Diao, who could fetch around €15 million.

Such a sale would not only fund Antony’s arrival but also allow Pellegrini to bolster other areas of his squad.

Antony’s agent, Junior Pedroso, confirmed in a recent interview with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano that interest in the winger is growing.

“Yes, many clubs have approached us for Antony’s move in January,” Pedroso said, adding that these clubs are keen to understand the player’s situation.

Manchester United, meanwhile, are undergoing a squad overhaul, with funds tight and sales necessary to support Amorim’s rebuilding plans.

While Antony’s camp has not been formally informed of United’s intentions, TEAMtalk sources suggest the club is ready to offload him if the right offer comes along.

As January approaches, the ball is now in United’s court to decide whether Antony’s departure could pave the way for a brighter future at Old Trafford.
