Manchester United star has signed a new contract with the club

The player has signed a 5 year deal

Manchester United signed Goalkeeper David De Gea from Atletico Madrid in 2011 to replace Edwin Van Der Sar, who retired form active football that year only. Sir Alex Ferguson even missed a League Cup match to travel to Spain to watch him in action before deciding to sign him up.

The 27 year old had a rocky start in England and was criticized for that but since then he has established himself as a key player for the club. He has been the best player for the Red Devils for the last few seasons, winning a record-breaking four Player of the Year awards with the club.

The Spaniard was one of the standout players for the English side last season, keeping 18 clean sheets in the league and was presented his first ever Premier League Golden Glove award.

He has been a model of consistency in recent years, with his shot-stopping ability having helped the club to many precious points during a testing period on and off the field. He is arguably considered the best goalkeeper in the world right now.

The Spain International has been repeatedly linked with a move to Real Madrid in the past few transfer windows but a deal never went through. But he has been again linked with a move to them in the summer as they are looking to find a long term replacement for Keylor Navas.

The Premier League giants have always remained adamant they would not sell their prize asset and were confident he would not agitate to leave.

He was asked about his future this week but remained coy.

“I don’t think Florentino Pérez has my number,” he told. “I don’t know if I’ll be the goalkeeper at Real Madrid.

“What I do know is that I’m very happy in Manchester. What I want is to win titles, like every other player.

“There’s no lacking in winning titles there (United) – we have to improve.

“We are a big club, we are not here to take second place. We have to improve and make this club great.”

De Gea has signed a new five-year deal with United, the Manchester Evening News reports and has ended Spanish side’s hope of landing him.
