Manchester United starting 11: forwards
LW: Anthony Martial
Anthony Martial arrived as a number 9 at Manchester United in 2015 but has effectively adapted to the style of playing as an inverted winger who cuts inside to score goals whenever the opportunities arise.
The Frenchman signed a five-year contract this year following Solskjaer’s arrival but has failed to impress so far, with consistency being the main issue. However, in between him and Alexis Sanchez for the left flank position, we don’t need a second thought as to who should start.
Martial, as seen in the preseason games, is also learning to track back and support his mates during defence, as Solskjaer aims to inculcate a pressing style amongst his boys. Give him time and the Frenchman is sure to flourish in that role.
ST: Marcus Rashford
Marcus Rashford had a dream start to his career under Louis van Gaal in 2015. Now, it is time for him to take up the mammoth responsibility of scoring goals.
Rashford was impressive when Solskjaer joined United but eventually lost his form. This season, however, the 22-year-old will have little room to make errors, knowing that a certain in-form youngster by the name of Mason Greenwood is eagerly waiting to land his chance as United’s main striker.
RW: Daniel James
Daniel James signed for United this summer in an £18m deal from Swansea, but only time can tell if he makes that fee look like a bargain.
The 21-year-old has shown tremendous potential in his pre-season and the United supporters can’t wait to watch him bursting at defenders with his electric pace.
United have tended to the right flank position after many years and no doubt James will be a regular starter for the Red Devils in the years to come – only if he can stay true to his promising talent.
