Ivan Rakitic is ready to stay at Barcelona and fight for his place in the team.

The midfielder’s position in the side is in imminent danger with the arrival of Frenkie de Jong from Ajax. The Dutch midfielder will arrive at the Spanish club in the summer as the Catalan giants have already secured his service for a reported £67 m fee.

Rakitic has been linked with a move to Manchester United. The Red Devils are reportedly ready to renew their interest in the midfielder ahead of a summer rebuilding process.

The 31 year old is destined to fall in the pecking order and the club might have to offload him in a bid to raise cash for further transfers. But the player is pretty confident he would be in Ernesto Valverde’s plans very much.

“I’m glad they signed him [De Jong] up.

“First of all there is a young boy who is playing very well and I am glad that the club continues to strengthen. Every good player that can arrive, delighted.

“But also everyone has their place.

“He arrives but I am convinced that he will not arrive for my position, my position is occupied.

“I wish you good luck and I respect you one hundred percent. Besides, he is playing in another position that is not mine, so I do not understand why they relate him to me.

“I’m glad you come. I hope you have good morning now that you are in Barcelona, that you enjoy and are welcome.”
