The Red Devils’s have been linked to host of midfielders in recent month and one of them is Shakhtar Donetsk star Fred.

Mourinho has been keeping tabs on the 25 year old since January and the player has impressed him with his consistent performances in the Champions League.

There were strong reports that the they were closing on a deal to sign the Brazilian. Rivals Manchester City were also interested in him but the Reds have blown them out of water by making such an offer that they are unwilling to match.

Gianluca Di Marzio says the club have agreed a £53 million transfer fee with Shakhtar and the transfer is done.

But the Brazil International has claimed that he wants to wait until after the World cup to decide his future. He also confirmed both the Manchester Clubs have shown interest in him.

“I don’t know what I’m going to choose,” Fred said at a press conference on Thursday as quoted by Goal. “Maybe I’ll decide better after the World Cup.

“My head is entirely with the World Cup.”

“There’s been some advanced talks since January, when I almost went to Man City,” Fred said. “United talked to my staff and Shakhtar.”

“It’s an honour to grab the attention of great coaches in Europe, from Manchester and from our own national team,” Fred said.

“I think I am strong on the field, I am versatile, I can play in several midfield positions. Some coaches like that, it grabs their attention, it is a big deal for me.

“Versatility, quality, good passing … I think all that catches coaches’ eyes.”

Fred joined the Ukrainian team from Internacional for a reported fee of  €15 million in 2013. He has been an integral part of the team since them and caught attention of many top European clubs.
