Scott McTominay Gleaming After Getting Named Captain For The First Time

Scott McTominay was absolutely delighted to put on the captain’s armband for Manchester United.

He led the Red Devils through a FA Cup victory over Watford on Saturday.

Ole Solskjaer surprised the midfielder with this big honour. He said, “I gave him the armband to test him, to see how he reacted. I wanted to see if there was any change in him and, luckily, there wasn’t. He delivered, as he always does – Scott has everything a leader has to have.

“We have always trusted our young men coming through and Scott is one who we believe has the Manchester United DNA in him and knows what it is to be a Manchester United player.”

McTominay, 24, got on the scoresheet, collecting his fourth of the season. He said afterwards, “When the manager told me it was a surreal moment.

“I’ve been here since I had just turned five, so that’s 18 or 19 years associated with the club and it is a huge honour. I love this club and it has been my whole life.”

United face Burnley next in the Premier League with a chance to go top of the table over Liverpool.

Odion Ighalo will play his last match for United against Watford in the FA Cup.

The Nigerian forward is expected to leave Old Trafford in January when his contract expires.

Earlier last week, Ighalo expressed his desire to play against his old club Watford in the FA Cup.

The 31-year old striker has dropped down the pecking order since the arrival of Edinson Cavani in the summer window.

“It is special for him against Watford, he will be involved, he’s in the squad,” Solskjaer confirmed.

“He has been training really well, I don’t know how many goals he scored today but he was the top scorer, by a mile in the round robin we just finished in training, so he’s not lost any of his sharpness or his quality. It’s been difficult for him to be out of the squad as many times because he did really well up until the summer.

“This season he’s not had as many opportunities but he has never let himself down as a professional and a human being. In training he always works hard, he has been a positive influence in the dressing room. Hopefully I don’t need to put him on when we need goals, but hopefully he can join in.”

Amad Diallo commented: “After waiting since the summer, it is finally a dream come true to complete my move to Manchester United. I am hugely ambitious and there is so much that I want to achieve in the game; when I spoke to the manager I knew that I had joined the perfect club.

“This is a really exciting squad with so many great players, I can promise that I will work hard every day to learn from them and give everything to develop my game. The coaches have been fantastic since I signed, we have been in touch regularly and they have already given me a lot of great advice.

“I have had time to prepare for this move, both physically and mentally, and I have worked really hard to be ready to make the step up to this amazing club.”

Manchester United lost to Manchester City last night and OGS admitted that the better team won.

“You know City can score great goals but when you concede goals like that from set pieces, it’s very disappointing,” he told Sky Sports after the match.

“When they play well, we have to play really well and that’s the reality of where we’re at. This is a much better version of Man United than the semi finals against City last season”

“It’s still not good enough and we have work to do, it’s a time to dust ourselves down and get ready for the FA Cup, the league and then back to the Europa League.”

“It’s not psychological,” he said about losing four semi finals. “Sometimes you meet good teams in the semis. We met, at the moment, City are probably the best team in England.”

Guardiola’s side were disrupted by a running number of CoVID cases and Pep admits he does not know what is happening.

It’s a mystery. Nobody knows what happens when you pass Covid-19. Some guys recover well, some guys recover really, really badly. Nobody knows. We will see in training sessions how they react,” he said.

Diogo Dalot hopes to earn his place in the Man United squad.

The 21-year old defender is on a season-long loan at AC Milan and admits he has unfinished business with the Red Devils.

He has made 11 starts in Serie A this campaign, with Milan comfortably sitting at the top of the table.

Dalot has struggled for form and fitness at Old Trafford and has fallen down the pecking order since the arrival of Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace last season.

Dalot told Record: “Of course, the feeling is a little deeper, more because I didn’t have the time I liked physically. I had great moments at United. I played very important games for me and the team.

“I left with a bit of a bittersweet feeling for not being physically available for all those games I lost due to injury but it is what it is.

“I wouldn’t change anything because what I learned was very important for my future and how I am now. I don’t regret it or look back with disappointment.”

Dalot added: “It is always positive to see the feedback from Milan fans and the affection that United fans have for me. It’s fantastic to feel that.

“But my focus is solely and exclusively on the present. The gift is Milan and helping the club to fulfil its goals and mine. It wouldn’t be professional to be otherwise.”

Anthony Martial needs to score more goals for United this season.

The Red Devils are dreaming of a first Premier League title since 2013.

United legend Phil Neville believes Martial needs to score more goals in order to win the Premier League title this season.

Currently, Bruno Fernandes is leading the goalscoring chart with 11 goals and Marcus Rashford with seven on his name.

“I was actually surprised by that stat [of Martial’s goal record this season], I didn’t know that stat before it was said in the interview there,” Neville told Premier League Productions.

“He’s someone that needs to score more goals, needs to score 10-15 goals a season, I think he needs to be up to that mark for United to have a chance of winning the league.

“He can’t just rely on a Rashford or a Fernandes to score the goals.

“He needs to be hitting those types of figures. I’d like to see him be more ruthless.”

Martial scored his second goal of the season courtesy of a brilliant cross from Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Neville added: “This was a really good finish, it was a good ball from Wan-Bissaka, but the guide of the header was really good and hopefully now he can get a run of games, a run of form, a run of rhythm.

“He looks fitter and I want to see him go on a run now of scoring goals.”

Bruno – Something important being built at United

Bruno - Something important being built at United

Bruno Fernandes has said that Manchester United are building something important.

I think we are building something important,” Fernandes told ManUtd.com“We know that. The most important for us is building a team. Building a group of players who take care of each other.

“Today it was Eric (Bailly making a stoppage-time block) before it was David (De Gea) saving that ball, in other situations other players, but the main thing is the group has to be together.

“As I sit in the stands in the last two or three minutes, everyone is shouting and hoping to don’t [sic] concede a goal and to take care of the ball.

“Everyone wants the three points, everyone wants that win and this is what it’s about. We have to build this more and more.

“I think it was tough but we have to learn from here. Also from the Leicester game (on Boxing Day which ended 2-2) we have to do much better.

“We have some situations on close the game. You have to close.”

Fernandes was happy with his team-mates against Villa, especially Paul Pogba, saying: “I think today Paul was top. The first goal he makes a good skill, he comes off from a player so easily.

“But we all know the qualities he has. I think it is not in doubt.

“I hope people is not in doubt on the qualities of Paul because we know he can play, he can help us and he can play really well, and today he did it. He was (involved) in both goals.

“In the penalty you see one of the best he can do, cover the ball and going away from his player, and I think he will give more and more and more with the confidence coming game after game.”

Bruno Fernandes Thinks Pogba Will Continue To Deliver For United

Paul Pogba put up his best performance of the season against Aston Villa on Friday.

Manchester United won 2-1 over the visitors to go joint top of the Premier League with Liverpool. They are only behind by goal difference.

Anthony Martial broke the deadlock with a header but Bertrand Traore equalised. It was Paul Pogba who dominated the midfield with four shots, two key chances created and the dribble leading up to Bruno Fernandes’ penalty.

“I think today Paul was top, the first goal he makes a good skill. We all know the qualities he has, it’s not in doubt,” Fernandes told MUTV about his team-mate.

“We know he can play, he can help us, he can play really well and today he did it. He was involved in both goals, with the penalty he covered the ball and went away from the players. He will give more and more with the confidence coming in every game.”

“We are building something important, most important for us is building a team and a group of players who take care of each other,” Fernandes continued. “In the stands, in the last two or three minutes, everyone was shouting for us. Everyone wants the three points and that win.

“It was tough, we have to learn from here and from the Leicester game [which ended in a 2-2 draw]. We have to do better, we had situations to close the game, we have to do that.”

Manchester United forward Edinson Cavani has been handed a three match ban by the FA.

Cavani was found guilty of racism over an innocent Instagram post to which no one bar the FA had taken offence. While it should be respected that the FA has shown extreme vigilance and a tough stance on any hint of racism, they must also learn to reprimand with the right lesson on certain situation.

Cavani is a well-respected, hard working and honest athlete who made a joke and out of ignorance rather than intent the situation became a debate. The FA took it as an opportunity to hand out a 3 match ban and fine $12,000.

Cavani has now made his position known now in an Instagram post.

“Hello everyone. I do not want to extend much in this uncomfortable moment for me. I want to share with you that I accept the disciplinary sanction knowing that I am foreign to English language customs, but I do not share the point of view,” he wrote.

“I apologise if I offended someone with an expression of affection towards a friend, nothing further in my intention.

“Those who know me know that my effort always seeks the simplest joy and friendship! I appreciate the countless expressions of support and affection.

“My heart is at peace, because I know that I always expressed myself with affection according to my culture and way of life. I send you a sincere hug.”
