Manchester United club legend Ryan Giggs knows a thing or two about playing with the eccentric Eric Cantona.

And he has now told Marcus Rashford, the current United star how much he would have loved to play with Cantona, like Giggs did.

“He was just different,” Giggs said.

“You see him there, look how big he is. People don’t realise how big and strong he was. He was like a target man but also he had them little touches.”

“For you he would have been a dream,” Giggs told Rashford.

“Because you know when you make those runs, he would always find you, and you wouldn’t have to break stride. You know sometimes in a game, you make runs, you make runs, but no-one’s finding you? As soon as he got the ball, he wasn’t interested in scoring – he wanted to score – but he got as much pleasure out of making assists. He was brilliant to play with.”

“Just the way that he trained. You must have seen coming up to the first team, players you’ve looked up to, training hard. You watch them and how they train and conduct themselves.”

Ighalo describes United transfer feeling

Red Devils’ new boy Odion Ighalo has described how it felt to make the Manchester United transfer.

Speaking on a frantic final few hours of the transfer window, Ighalo told MUTV: “Yeah, it was very dramatic.

“My agent called me the day before and said Man United. I would love to go. A few other clubs had shown interest, I said please, just pick United, if it’s going to be possible.

“At 11pm in Shanghai, my agent called me [to say] that United want to do the deal, so I woke up that night and started looking for a translator to go to the directors’ room and hit his door and all that. My agent wants to speak to you, United are coming for me, you have to make this happen and all that you know. So they started talking and discussing. I didn’t sleep throughout that night, because it was going to end at 7am, Shanghai time, and the transfer [window] is going to close there.

”So, from 11pm, there was paperwork, negotiating and all that, for the loan deal and all that, so we are talking and other teams are calling them, wanting me, but I told my agent that this is what I want. I want to come here.

“He said you’re going to get a pay-cut to go to United. I said I don’t care. Make this deal happen. I want to go to United. I don’t care how much is the pay-cut, I know that, make it happen.

“So the director and everybody didn’t know what to say anymore, because I had already made up my mind, so my agent started putting it in order, and, at 5am, we finished. My agent said he’d forwarded all the papers to United, they will confirm for me if everything is okay. I think, around 5am-6am, he said everything is okay, it’s done. I was excited.

“I called my mum and she was happy, crying and all that. This is your dream and all that and I’m happy for you. It was dramatic, I didn’t sleep through, I was very happy that finally we got the deal done.”

Fernandes-Pogba partnership could be a gamechanger for United

Former Manchester United player (winger) Lee Sharpe discusses why Manchester United could greatly benefit with a Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba partnership.

He stated that this could solve a number of problems for United.

“I think they [Fernandes-Pogba] would have a good partnership,” Sharpe told Sky Sports News.

“You would have to play them with someone who could do the defensive work. Fernandes is a natural forward-thinking midfielder.

“Going forward, I think they can cause all sorts of problems between them. It could be just what United need. It’s been really disappointing with no Pogba this season, I think they’ve really missed him.

“He’s got charisma on the pitch and the creativity he brings to the game – there’s a level of arrogance and ability that brings everyone up to Paul Pogba’s level.”

After missing out on signing a striker in the January 2020 transfer window, Manchester United are definitely suffering now.

They’re still on the borderline of attracting top players, but it goes to show just how unorganised the club is at the moment,” added Sharpe.

“At the start of the season, they let [Romelu] Lukaku and [Alexis] Sanchez go who are not bad players at all.

“They don’t replace them then in the January transfer window and miss out on Haaland and then bring in Ighalo.

“This is what upsets fans. You’re letting players go at a certain level and then bringing players in that are not at that level.”

Maybe United could take his advice, afterall.

Ighalo reveals taking less pay just to join Manchester United

Manchester United new player Odion Ighalo admits to taking less pay just so he would be able to play for Manchester United, his dream club.

He was rumoured to be earning 300,000 pounds a week when playing for Shanghai Greenland Shenhua. However, it’s obvious that Manchester United would not be matching that cost – but strangely, Ighalo was okay with that – as long as he got to be with United. However, is this a fair move on United’s part to pay him less?

According to the club’s official website, Ighalo said: “So, from 11pm, there was paperwork, negotiating and all that, for the loan deal and all that, so we are talking and other teams are calling them, wanting me, but I told my agent that this is what I want.

“I want to come here. He said you’re going to get a pay-cut to go to United. I said I don’t care. Make this deal happen. I want to go to United. I don’t care how much is the pay-cut, I know that, make it happen.”

When asked about what his ambitions are for United, he replied: My ambition is to work hard with the team and make sure we finish well in the season and above where we are today, because I saw the table yesterday and I know Man United is a big team, they are there at the top and now things are not going the way they should go. So my aim to contribute my own quarter to the team and make sure we finish good in the position.

The fact is that Ighalo wanted to go to United so bad, that the pay cuts didn’t bother him, is all.

The Norwich defender has revealved his toughest opponent.

And it’s one United player.

Norwich City defender Max Aarons has picked Manchester United star Marcus Rashford as the toughest opponent he has faced. United have gotten the better of Norwich in both the matches the two sides have played in the league.

The 20-year-old picked Rashford over the likes of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Son Heung-min as the toughest opponent he has faced in the league so far. Aarons claimed that the England international is ‘on another level pace wise’ and definitely the toughest to play against.

In the two club’s first Premier League encounter back in October, United ran out 3-1 winners with Rashford scoring one of the three goals. In the reverse fixture at Old Trafford in January, United won 4-0 with the 22-year-old scoring two goals.

“I’m definitely testing myself against the best players,” Aarons told Premier League Productions. “Rashford was excellent in the game when we played against them, definitely the toughest I have come up against so far. I think he is on another level pace wise.”

United don’t attract big name players anymore

Eidur Gudjohnsen, a former Chelsea player, feels as Manchester United now don’t attract anymore big name players.

Manchester United had hoped to sign now Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, but plans fell through at the last moment, when he switched to the German side.

So new Man United striker Ighalo presented as the solution to their problems. However – Manchester United could have signed more or much better players.

Have United gone beyond repair? To that, according to Sky Sports, Gudjohnsen said: “It comes back to the time of the season of this [Ighalo] transfer as well. I don’t think any of the best strikers are available.”

He added: “I don’t think any of the best strikers are eager to join United anymore.”

Ighalo that way is rather lucky to be picked up by Man United, however, it seems as though Manchester United might not have had much of a choice in the end.

“He must be the luckiest man! Going to China, being away from Europe nobody seeing him for two and a half years since he was at Watford and then getting a loan move at United,” he said.

“Wow. That doesn’t happen!

“It says how far behind United are from Liverpool, Manchester City and even Chelsea. They have got a big job ahead.

“They needed somebody in. I think he was not their number one and I would be surprised if he was their number two or three as well.

“He is getting an opportunity and he will definitely get minutes and we will see if he can do it.”

The Nigerian only joined United at deadline day.

He has now paid a special tribute to one former player.

As Manchester United have officially revealed, newcomer Odion Ighalo will be playing with the No. 25 shirt. The number has a special meaning in Nigeria thanks to Nwankwo Kanu heroics at Arsenal. The former Super Eagles forward is considered one of the best players in African football history.

Ighalo has become the 9th Red Devil to take the number and the first one since captain Antonio Valencia’s exit from Old Trafford. The previous No. 25 holders were Valencia (09/10 – 18/19), Nick Powell (12/13), Danny Simpson (06/07 – 07/08), David Jones (06/07), Quinton Fortune (99/00 – 05/06), Jordi Cruyff (98/99), Kevin Pilkington (94/95 – 98/99) and Gary Walsh (90/91 – 93/94).

United have brought Ighalo from Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua on loan until the end of the season. The former Watford striker has a solid Premier League experience under his belt. The Nigerian made 100 appearances for the Hornets in two-and-a-half years at the club and scored 40 goals.

After his spell in England, Ighalo spent nearly three seasons in China. The 30-year-old recorded combined 74 games and 46 goals for Changchun Yatai and Shanghai Shenhua.

VAR has caused huge controversy in England this season!

However, Gary Neville, the former Manchester United captain is in support of it. Not completely though!

“This idea that VAR is ruining football? It’s not. What’s happening is that VAR is experiencing some turbulence. When I went to Stockley Park earlier in the year, I had some concerns that we thought we could ‘do it better’ than countries and tournaments that have been doing it for years.

“It’s been experimented, used and tested, and we thought we could do it better by not allowing the referee to go over to the monitor, because he’s ’emotional’. We want emotion, we want the referee in the stadium to make the final decision.

“[They] want the Stockley Park officials removed from what would be the ‘smell of the fixture’, and I understand that, and for offsides that is fine, but not for decisions that relate to a red card, or big penalty decisions, it should be made by the on-field referee.

“I’ve watched Champions League games this season where the manager has walked over to the pitchside screen, the fans know what’s going on and they’re not left in the dark.

“For me, if the referee is going over to check the decision, fans will feel like they’re being brought on the journey and process. Hearing what referee and Stockley Park officials are saying in the stadium is also bringing the fan into the experience. At the moment it is too detached.

“I can see why they did it, but I had a problem with it when I first visited Stockley Park back in the summer, and I felt they would have to change towards the European model of referees going over to the monitor. It’s far better.”

Dalot completely in support of newbie Bruno Fernandes

Diogo Dalot is in support of Bruno Fernandes for his debut Wolves game.

“The players knew Bruno was a very good player of course,” Dalot said, as per Sky Sports.

“It’s different seeing him abroad and then seeing him in training every day. He’s going to bring us a lot.

“I knew him and I think he’s going to be a very good player for us and he’s going to help us build this team.”

“For me, it was not a surprise and I think that he is going to show us a lot more that he did today but it was a fantastic debut for him.”

“I had Portuguese coaches and staff when I came,” the right-back said, having been brought in by Jose Mourinho in 2018.

“They helped me a lot and when he came I try to do the same because he had a Portuguese guy, a player that he knew.

“I’m just trying to help him settle in with the whole team.”

Solskjaer is also pleased with Bruno.

‘You can see Bruno is a top player. Of course it’s the first game.

‘First half everyone was more or less getting the ball into feet and Bruno is one of those who, when he gets the ball into feet, he wants players running, wants players moving in front of him and we didn’t move enough in front of him.

‘So we felt we moved him further back to get him on the ball more. He’ll be a top, top addition.’

Cantona = Ighalo? Former United star thinks so!

Mark Bosnich has claimed Odion Ighalo could have the same impact as Eric Cantona.

Yes, we are not joking.

“This was an emergency signing,” the former United goalkeeper said on Sky Sports News.

“I can understand a lot of people taking about a scatter gun approach, well it had to be with Marcus Rashford being out.

“The top four is still possible for Manchester United, they had to go and get somebody.

“The boy that’s come in (Ighalo) has got nothing to lose, nobody expects anything unbelievable from him but they definitely needed somebody in that position.

“You never know. A long, long time ago Manchester United signed a certain Frenchman (Eric Cantona) who no one really expected much from and he ended up propelling them to one of their most successful seasons of all time.

“I think they can, there’s no doubt about that,” he added when asked if United can finish top four.

“Six points at this stage of the season for me is still nothing.

“The big question of them not scoring goals is the way that they’re playing.

“People would have a lot more confidence if they had been watching performances and saying okay this team is actually going somewhere.

“I do believe that they are. Whether or not they’ll be able creep into that top four at the end of the season is a different question entirely.

“There’s a still a chance, regardless of what anyone says they’re still in the mix.”
